Peas or Carrots

In Feb 2009, a Facebook chain letter went around that asked people to describe themselves in terms of 25 random things about themselves. It was meant to share interesting things about you with your Facebook friends. It generated tens of thousands of entries. I tried it, but after I wrote, and read it, I wasn’t sure that it really described who I was. When you get to chose the 25 things you tend to pick those items that will be interesting to or impress other people or that are unique, but I didn’t feel it described who I was.

I thought about how else to do this and got focused on our individual preferences. How we answer everyday questions and what we chose seemed to be a more contextual and comparative way of how we show ourselves to others. We do this all the time in how we choose our food, how we order our meals, how we pick our clothes, and how we pick our partners.

Anne and I were camping recently; off the grid, with no TV, Internet or radio for entertainment. All we had was a good camp fire and each others company. So, we started a conversation around how we would describe our selves in terms of the answers we give to those everyday questions, our common preferences, and our answers to life’s eternal paradoxes. Over the course of 2 days, we came up with the follow list.

Instead of the Facebook 25 Random Things, we came up with J Dawgs 34. I’m sure there are more items but this is just the list we came up with. Thirty four questions to everyday questions, preferences, and life’s eternal paradoxes. Here’s the list and my answers.
